I’m faffing today. There’s plenty I could be doing, and indeed I have done, but I’m also pootling, scheming, naffing about and faffing.

Between you and me, dear reader, it’s proving surprisingly productive. Trust me, I’m as shocked as you are! Now, hands on client appointments tend to be on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays tend to be for marketing, admin, jobs that need doing. Week in week out. So this nebulous way of doing but not doing sure feels unusual. I guess you could say that even though I choose to be self employed for the freedom of choice it offers, I seem to have got myself stuck in a rut.

How about you? Are you feeling stuck in the same old same old? I hope not.

Because between you and Me, I think we should probably be having more fun.

Which made reading this article feel very prescient. Dogs, daily delights and ditching Twitter: could a ‘fun-tervention’ improve my life – in just one month? | Health & wellbeing | The Guardian

Yuhsee! Fun is good for you! Yippee!

But how as a fully blimmin grown up adult are we supposed to have more fun? And how do we overcome that urge to turn it into work? Because we’re soooooo goooooood at turning fun things into a slog?

Here’s an example: I love to bake, and my family loves to eat the cake I bake. That’s a win win n’est pas? Well yeah, buuuuut… they really like my guinness cake (Thanks Nigella). They could eat that dang thing every single time. Which of course would turn making it feel like work to me.

So I decided before Christmas that this year I’m branching out, no two celebration cakes will be the same this year! We’ve had rum baba’s (fascinating little leaven critters that they are), lemon drizzles and red velvets – it’s not even February yet!

Although, I had to put some practice in on the Red Velvets because it’s tricky to get them red enough, or cook them long enough to stop them from sagging (they mislead on the clean knife test). Y’know, they were starting to feel like a project that required perfecting. See how easy it is to turn fun into fuss?  However, whipping up that Italian Meringue Cream Cheese frosting put it right back to feeling fun again.

What I’m trying to say is that sometimes fun is about practicing something so it feels flowy and effortless, and sometimes it’s about spontaneity and ‘give it a go’ chutzpah.

This segues me nicely over to ‘a new thing’, which is kind of an old thing…

Last January, I started a membership called Body Geek Club, it was three self treatment sessions a week. It was a lot of fun. Until it wasn’t…

Because thinking up and recording three sessions a week can feel like clapping into the void. It’s a lot of effort. You’re trying to be original and yet consistent. So I took great learning from it, blessed it, and in October released it.

By the time I got to December, my body was GRUMPY!!!

Because what’s worse than too much of a good thing?

Not enough of a good thing.

Which brought me to a decision. I would really like to have a happy body. One that feels slinky and good to wriggle around in. Would you like that too? A happy body?

Well, if you DO, then this might float your boat.

Happy Body’ – my once a week, 30 minute, self treatment session. You buys a ticket, You grabs your foam roller, You clears a space on the floor (or bed), You do’s the work! With me, invariably laughing my head off and falling off my roller. I get to do it live, which means I don’t have the opportunity to go back and correct my mistakes or get perfectionist about it all. It’s real life, and I can’t promise not to swear.

We’ll do some stretch work, some stealthy yet gentle deep tissue work, some breath work. Super simple self care. For a Fiver. As and when you need it.

And if you miss the class, you can watch the replay, even if you come to the class you can watch the replay.

HURRAH!!

First session is THURSDAY the 3rd of Feb at 12:45pm- click here to book your spot

Does that sound like FUN?

(Of course, you’re also very much welcome to say “Oh God NO!”, your opinion is very much your opinion. Your fun is very welcome to be different to my fun )

Anyhooooo….

I’m off to go declutter a cupboard, because that’s the other thing about fun, sometimes it comes in the form of agony that evokes an aftermath of smug satisfaction. Ain’t the human experience just a kick sometimes! (A bit like this – how does that saxophone sound like a whole brass section of trumpets?)

Big love,

Carrie
